Wiiless Wiikend (updated)

auyongtc | January 28, 2007

Yeap, it’s gonna be a Wiiless Wiikend. Was planning on going to Yodobashi Kawasaki branch to see if there’s any available. Just made a call to them and they said nope, no stock. Some stock did come in at 5.30pm, but it was all sold out by 7pm.

Right, oh well, it’s just gonna be a FACup Weekend then!

UPDATE on Jan 28, 2007 @ 1.45pm:

Scored myself a Wii! This morning went down to Itoyokado Oimachi branch at 8.45am and waited till 10am for the Wii purchase. They had 69 units in stock. Was the 7th person there. Though I’d definitely gonna score a Wii, but realized in the end that it’s a lottery draw. They were giving out tickets between 10-10.15am and then drawing 69 random tickets at 10.30am. Luckily, by the time they had 16 units or so left, my number was picked! Phew, otherwise gonna be a waste of my Sunday morning and a stupid grande cup of Starbucks’ cappucino.

Managed to set it up and updated despite not being able to read Japanese. Bought Wii Sports and the Wii Play Wiimote bundle, as well as the component cables. Now running 480p on my Dell 2407WFP monitor. Fun… can’t wait to play with others when Benet and tsewei come around.

cartoonish

tsewei | January 27, 2007

 There’re 2 new things:

1. That new cartoon avatar that we have up on this blog, next to the welcome note, and next to the blog entries.

It’s our made-up Southpark characters. Me in my wacky hair, and him with his pirate obsession. :p

You can make one for yourself HERE.

2. My new Threadless tee is here! With a funny cartoon of a clown, puking rainbow.

It’s called Morning After. Apt. :p

look! :)

Hiatus? What hiatus?

auyongtc | January 25, 2007

Nope, it’s called hibernation. :)

So, I haven’t been blogging lately. And I’ve been ignoring everyone asking me to blog, even tsewei. And they’ve all been asking why is tsewei taking over the blog, and even posting a Geek Speek blog post! Alright, calm down people. I won’t let this happen again. I shall hibernate less.

Here I am, giving an update of what’s been going on in my life since I last blogged. Was in Hong Kong early December last year to attend ITU Telecom World 2006 expo. Food there was nice, albeit a lil overpriced. Didn’t have much chance to go around HK though, stupid expo was held at the AsiaWorld Expo right next to the airport at Lantau Island. And then Benet came to visit in Tokyo. Spent a week going through some training and showed him what I know of tokyo (which is not much, btw). He’ll be joining me in Tokyo once the Immigration approved his work permit.

And then I went back home the week of Christmas. Flew into Singapore, and then travelled back to KL with tsewei. Met up with relatives and some friends. Ate, ate, ate. Everything I craved for. Ate and ate somemore. Bak kut teh, wantan mee, char siew and roast pork rice, mamak food and of course, mom’s home cooking. So sorry to the friends I couldn’t find any time to meet up. I had a strict eating schedule to stick to. Then checked out my dad’s latest venture into the fish farming business. Nice place. Refreshing. Retirement-friendly. And he’s only 50 this year. I’ll try to do that in 1 decade less! LOL!

Enough about back home. Kinda makes me miss it and want to go back again. Oh yeah, can’t find a Nintendo Wii anywhere here. Does it exist? I dunno. Wanted to buy one to bring home for the family - but just couldn’t get it anywhere. Gonna try this weekend at Kawasaki Yodobashi Camera outlet. Perhaps can find one out of Tokyo - wish me luck!

And Playstation 3 is everywhere. Boxes of it piled up at every store I’ve been. Poor Sony, first the blowing up lithium-ion batteries and now bad sales on PS3 barely 2 months past launch. Heads are starting to roll at Sony, I’ve heard. And let’s not get started about Blu-ray. Oh boy, sucks to be Sony right now.

Also, went for my annual medical check-up yesterday. No likey needles. No pain, just no likey. Luckily the nurse was quite pretty looking, distracted me from the sight of the syringe. So yeah, got pretty nurse here - then again, it was a private clinic. YMMV on public hospitals. Didn’t occur to me when she asked me which side would I like to get jabbed. So I chose my dominant arm. I’m a lefty, btw. Then it hit me when having lunch right after the check-up. How the fsck am I gonna eat hot soupy soba noodles with chopsticks on my numbing left hand? Smart move, luckily I’m almost ambidextrous when it comes to using chopsticks. Phew!

Alrighty, will write more over the weekend, especially if I scored a Nintendo Wii :p

P/S: Renault F1’s new car livery is hideous! I thought McLaren’s livery this year kinda sucked, but Renault knocked that one out of the park with a non-matching colour scheme. And what’s worse is when they continued letting Fisico have green colour on his helmet. Oh yeah, what’s with the fugly sidepod side mirrors, Pat?

I *heart* Apple

tsewei | January 11, 2007

After switching over to Mac, I gotta admit, I really love it!

MacBook rocks! So does my new iPod Nano. :p

And now, there’s iPhone!! (Although Cisco now fighting for the name’s trademark, oh well)

I was just checking out its features and all on the Apple website, and looking at it makes me think that these people at Apple really thought things through. It has all the clever little things that make using gadgets so much easier and fun, especially for tech-dummies like me.

Like, the whole touch-screen thingy, wow. And how the screen will switch between landscape and portrait depending on how you hold the phone. I mean, it’s not a big factor in choosing a phone, but it’s all these clever little things that make it so much better than everything else! Plus that fact that it’s a phone + PDA + iPod all rolled into one running on OSX! wheeee…

Actually, there’s no point I babble on so much. Just gotta see the thing itself. Unfortunately, it’ll only be released in the States in 6 months’ time. So for now, we’re left with oggling at it through the website.

Though I must wonder, how come no 3G ah? Everything so high tech, but no 3G?! >.< hehe, cos I was thinking, if it had 3G, and they sell it in Japan, the price will drop in no time, and Au Yong can get one, and then pass it on to me, heeheehee.

But seriously, they are leaving out the entire Japanese market as there are zero phones with no 3G in Japan! And Japan is such a huge market. Everyone buys gadgets, especially phones!!

And the Apple store at Ginza is so cool. A square box building in the middle of the street. I call it the Apple mecca for Apple worshipers. LOL.

city girl wanders into the kampung

tsewei | January 9, 2007

Been bumming around a bit with Au Yong for the past 10+ days. So it’s been a fattening break for the both of us. Especially since he came back with the resolution to “eat every 3 hours” so that he can taste everything on his “to eat” list at least once before he goes back to Japan. :p

Spent a quiet Christmas in Singapore. Avoided the crowd in Orchard Road like the plague, and had Christmas Eve dinner at a mexican place called El Patio in Holland Village. Absolutely yummy (fantastic salmon salad), but servings were so huge i couldn’t finish my burito even though I really really wanted to.

To the unfinished-burito: I’m so sorry I haven’t got more space in my stomach for you.

After that we headed back to KL to visit our families. For some reason, KL looks more and more kampung. Maybe it’s because there were too many potholes and trash around. Hmm..

Besides family dinners, countless shopping trips and plain lazing in front of the television (Cantonese drama on satellite TV! w00t!), we also visited his dad’s new fish pond.

It’s a long drive up to I-dunno-where. It’s on a hill somewhere in uber ulu-ness Rawang. But it’s a nice place. Feels very “back-to-nature” with all the hills and, water from the hills! haha.

It was also the first time I ate rambutan that was plucked straight from the tree (and not from a pre-packed bag in the supermarket)! haha. I’m such jakun city girl. Too bad the durians were all gone by the time we visited.

So of course, I was snapping away with his new Casio Z850 camera. Great camera, and HERE are some (hopefully good) photos of the scenery there. :) (Alternately, click on ‘Photo Gallery’ on the navigation bar above, and check out the album titled ‘fish pond’.)
